Men’s lacrosse begins America East play with an 18-10 victory against Albany – Binghamton University Athletics

Albany, N.Y. — Binghamton men’s lacrosse (3-4) opened America East play with a win over rival UAlbany (1-5). The Bearcats set a new program record for most goals in a game, ending a nine-game skid against the Great Danes with an 18-10 victory at Bob Ford Field. 

After being up 5-1 in the first and UAlbany’s strong second quarter to cut the lead to 7-5, Binghamton had a commanding second half scoring 11 goals. Junior Matthew Desouza dominated the faceoff position posting 12-19 faceoff wins, as well as sophomore Ross Chazanow winning 10-13 faceoffs which sparked multiple runs for the Bearcats. Desouza led the Bearcats with seven groundballs, followed by Chazanow with six.

“I thought today was a total team effort,” head coach Kevin McKeown said. “We did a great job of getting possessions through both the faceoff and clearing game, which gave us the opportunity to score.”

Offensively, it was a career day for multiple Bearcats. Ten BU players scored in the matchup, with four players scoring multiple goals. Senior Daniel MacKinney scored five goals, setting a career high for goals in a game. Senior Vincent Basile scored his second consecutive hat trick. Kevin Winkoff continued his scoring streak with a six-point game, which featured two goals and four assists, which tied his career high for assists in a game. Sophomore Ethan Insinga scored three goals and picked up an assist. Junior Declan Ferris scored his first career goal as a Bearcat.

“Our whole attack unit did a great job of making the most of their chances,” McKeown said.

Redshirt sophomore Thomas Greenblatt had a four-point game with a goal and three assists. Junior Max Napoli scored his first goal of the season. Rounding out BU’s offensive performance were senior Andrew Arce and graduate student Justin Roderka each with a goal.

Defensively, BU caused eight turnovers with senior Max Verch leading the way with three, his season high. Sophomore Trey Sofield caused two. Redshirt junior Teddy Dolan picked up 12 saves in today’s game.

Binghamton will return to Vestal to play another America East conference game against UMBC next Saturday at 1 p.m.

NOTES: Bearcats set a new school record for most goals in a game with 18, breaking their previous record of 16.
