The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce’s annual Motivational March was something to celebrate on March 31 after 12 businesses were honoured for their selfless efforts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and 63 new members were confirmed.

About 60 people attended the event in-person, which featured a complimentary dinner and a presentation from keynote speaker Michelle Cederberg at Woodside Golf Course. Even more tuned in through a virtual live stream.

Airdrie Food Bank, Medicine Shoppe, Airdrie Music Lessons, Airdrie Public Library, Ambition Performing Arts, Creekside Pharmacy, Keyra Hoffman, Marr & Company, Pink Wand Cleaning Company, The Hair Lounge, Venue Church, and Your Local Ranch Ltd. were all named Covid Warriors.

Each were given a trophy for their efforts to not only thrive during the pandemic, but to also lend helping hands to others in need, often at their own expenses.

Marilyne Aalhus, executive director of the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, said given the challenges of the past couple of years, the Chamber felt it important to honour businesses and organizations who tried to make a difference for others.

“We felt that after everything that people have been through over the last two years, at the very least we wanted to do something to showcase the courage and perseverance that people have undergone,” said Aalhus.

“We thought, ‘let’s celebrate something,’ and make it a little bit different. We were so pleased with the results.”

63 new individuals and organizations have already joined the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce in 2022. The Chamber took a moment out of Motivational March to take a vote and ratify their membership for the year.

The return of the Home and Lifestyle Show, starting April 23, was a big attractor, but Aalhus said 63 new members in such a short amount of time is remarkable to see.

“We’re proud to be bringing back the Home and Lifestyle Show, and in doing so we encouraged people to become members and join. That was a big surge,” said Aalhus.

“We’re sitting at 575 members-strong. (63 new members) is a huge demonstration for how hard our staff is working to get back to businesses and support our members,” she said.

“Some were returning members, and we have a lot of really cool new businesses join—even some that I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting before. It’s great to see people coming up with new and creative business ideas.”

She thanked the event’s core sponsor, JHH Transport, for making the event possible.

“They call Airdrie home, and it really is because of sponsors like JHH that we were able to host such an amazing event and provide awards and tickets to all these Covid Warriors at no cost.”
