An inspirational art installation paying tribute to selfless Covid-19 frontline workers has been unveiled in a serene Ayr estate.

The artwork ‘Pathways’ – created by local artist Kathryn Hanna, 27, from Ayr – sits proudly within the grounds of Rozelle House and offers visitors the opportunity to reflect on key workers’ tiresome efforts to keep services running in the community throughout the pandemic.

Commissioned by the David Elder Edward Trust, ‘Pathways’ was inspired by hospitals and their use of different-coloured routes to help limit the transmission of Covid.

The artwork features multi-coloured resin stones and a short poem which is inspired by staff who went above and beyond their call of duty.

Artist Kathryn’s research for the piece saw her talking with key workers to gain insight into how they coped under difficult circumstances and how they dealt with mounting daily pressures.

She then translated their thoughts into poetry before teaming up with Russell Brooks of Ayrshire Granite to produce the artwork.

Kathryn, whose time at Rozelle in childhood and during lockdown greatly influenced her work, said: “During the pandemic, many of us discovered the benefits of outdoor spaces, walking in woodland areas and connecting with nature.

“I wanted to incorporate this into my work through the creation of a pathway which could provide an area for reflection.

“Key workers were invited to participate in the project and I was delighted to represent their thoughts and reflections.”

You can visit ‘Pathways’ at Rozelle House, just beyond the courtyard.
