Rebecca Walter, co-owner of Fit Body Boot Camp St. Augustine, opened the franchise to appeal to busy working parents.

As the mother of two young children, Rebecca Walter knows firsthand that squeezing fitness into a daily schedule can be challenging for moms on the go.

A lifelong gym rat, she became interested in a 30-minute workout designed to mix cardio with strength-training and hit every part of the body “so you can get in and out,” as Walter said.

So the 36-year-old decided to take a chance and, with her husband Justin, open a location of Fit Body Boot Camp, a national franchise specializing in the time-efficient fitness concept.

The studio, which opened Jan. 17, is located at 107 Nature Walk Parkway off County Road 210.

Walter previously worked as a dental hygienist for more than a decade.

“So it’s quite a different role,” she said, “but I’m still helping people to be healthy.”

In each half-hour session, participants work their way through a circuit of stations, motivated by music and an instructor, using equipment like dumbbells, sand bags and kettlebells.

Walter said this kind of interval training continues to burn fat even when the body is at rest for up to 36 hours after the workout because it keeps the heart rate elevated.

Membership also includes personalized nutritional coaching and goal-setting.

Fit Body Boot Camp was founded in 2009 by personal trainer and fitness industry expert Bedros Keuilian. His idea was to provide mainstream access to the kind of one-on-one personal training techniques through group classes offered at a much lower price point.

Walter, who lives in nearby World Golf Village, said she and her husband chose the site knowing how much development is going up across the surrounding area.

“We just knew it was needed,” said Walter. “We have a lot of existing residents [joining] and more moving in with families.”

To further accommodate busy, working parents with a family-friendly environment, the Fit Body Boot Camp franchise offers free on-site childcare for members for a majority of its morning and evening classes.

Membership is $36.99 per week which includes unlimited sessions, or $20 per individual class.

Thanks to a successful social media campaign publicizing the company’s standard seven-day free trial, Walter said, traffic has been steady.

Walter added: “I think what sets (us) apart that people can tell is we know your name coming in the door; we’re personal, you’re not just a number here.”
